Support Alternative Education

If you voted for Measure 98, you’ve already made an incredibly helpful effort to support CTE education in Oregon. With those funds, we have been able to offer exciting new courses and opportunities to our students.

However, if you are looking for another way to support all students at Meek, you can donate to the school and to directly the Digital Media program as well. Thank you for supporting alternative education in Portland!

The Music of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Something is going on at Meek—the Drama class is putting on a play!. The play is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare. It has both romance and comedy. The students in the class have been putting a lot of time and effort into it. The play will be performed on March 21st and 22nd there will be dinner served at the March 22nd show . Tickets will be on sale soon.

There are a lot of talented people who are helping put on the show; for example, this song was composed by our intern, social worker Tim, who is working with the drama class to create all the music. One of the songs he’s working on right now is for a fairy scene in the play. In the scene we are casting the fairy queen to sleep. The song is a little upbeat and soothing, not too soothing though, since we don’t want the audience to fall asleep too. Along with the song that Tim is playing, the fairies will be singing with him to complete the song.

We hope you will come see the play at one of the two shows!

STUDENT WORK: Dragon Earrings by Elizabeth

dragon

Students in the Art to Part class create original designs using Adobe Illustrator, then use our Manufacturing shop’s wonderful toys to turn them into pieces of art you can display or wear. These dragon earrings were made by Elizabeth last year in our inaugural Art to Part class. She used Illustrator’s shape tools and a drawing tablet to draw the design freehand, then used our laser cutter to make versions in wood and acrylic.

Students interested in Art to Part should contact Ms. Taramasso or Mr. Eaton about registering for the class Term 2, starting October 10th.
